» La Muerte (Rock)
Precursors and inventors. Hated, despised and sometimes, adulated. “Conjuring extreme, horrifying images of death, addiction, the road and urban violence glued to putrid rock ‘n’ roll and manic-depressive bluesrock, La Muerte released a string of cult-albums and EP’s throughout the 80s and early 90s, which heavily resonated with those abandoned by love or devoid of hope. Even the devil’s rejects found refuge in La Muerte‘s growling, howling, stop / start frenzy, and feedback shivers of guitar burning through the dark cracks of life. ” March 2015, La Muerte did a highly praised come-back show at the Brussels’ Ancienne Belgique. Founding members Marc du Marais & Dee-J. were joined by Michel Kirby (Arkangel, Wolvennest, Length of Time, Deviate…), Christian Z. (Length of Time) and Tino de Martino (Channel Zero). During the summer, La Muerte confirmed their new live potential by attending the stage some major Belgian festivals (Dour, Sjock, Lokersefeesten…). This was followed by the release of the double live album “EViL”.
“...Phenomenal line-up is an epic moment in Belgian rock history, ... La Muerte: the return of the popes of the Belgian underground…” After a Belgian indoor tour by the end of 2015, La Muerte was already looking abroad again. In 2016, they were invited to Lausanne (CH), for the Impetus festival, sharing the bill with At The Drive-In and Laibach, and also for the prestigious Roadburn festival (NL) where they played right before Neurosis.
Choosing wisely their live shows, more festival appearances will follow that year, like the famous GRASPOP METAL MEETING, where they are headlining one of the marquees or DESERTFEST or Les Nuits du Botanique where Vive La Fête and Front 242 joined during the set, or headliner at the Brussel Summer Festival. In the meantime, they also released that year, some brand-new material on the “Murder Machine” EP. “…for its comeback La Muerte was ruthless, cruel and unexpected, generating a sensation for the listener somewhere between fear and fascination, that leaves you with the feeling of having shared a sonic journey accompanied by a slow and clever killer that anyway will have your guts...” The end of the 2016 was focused on another indoor Belgian tour while also taking their time to work on new material for the next full album and a collaboration with Front 242.
Early January 2017, for the first time ever, the two most iconic Belgian bands FRONT 242 and LA MUERTE joined together in the studio to record the worldwide hit HEADHUNTER. Mixed by ZEUSS (Rob Zombie) it was sold out immediately on Record Store Day.
In 2017, besides a couple of live appearances at Kliko Festival and Helldorado and as special guests at GÜTTERDAMMERUNG where Marc du Marais & Dee-J. joined the band of Iggy Pop, LA MUERTE took some time off to work on the pre-productions and the recordings of the new album. They also focused on other side projects like an open-heart surgery for the drummer, Wolvennest, Arkangel, Channel Zero, L’Amiral and DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD, the movie of Marc du Marais in première in Paris, Brussels and several film festivals worldwide, including Japan and Mexico.
LA MUERTE will bring out a full new album by autumn 2018 with a brand new live show and will be back on the road in 2019.
This will be their first official Brussels show since Brussels Summer Festival 2016.
» Doganov (EBM / Dark Wave / Rock)
The Belgian band Doganov formed in 2010. To describe their music, you have to think Praga Khan meets Rammstein, with intermittent dashes of new wave hooks sprinkled liberally throughout. Blending industrial, EBM, new wave, metal and rock, the band sounds heavy yet danceable.
Doganov calls their music ‘something dark to dance to‘ which is also the title of their first EP released in 2013. The single ‘History’ quickly followed during that year after which the band performed several headlining shows, but also gigs in support of Punish Yourself, Die Krupps and Deadcell amongst others.
In 2015, Doganov released their first full album ‘Conducting Chaos’, which was mixed by Didier-Dee-J-Moens from La Muerte and which also contains a cover version of the infamous track ‘HeadHunter’ from Front 242 which they also perform live.
Doganov created remixes for USA’s electronic band I:Scintilla (Skin Tight), Belgian electrorock outfit Goose (What You Need remixes) and is also featured on the b-side remixes of La Muerte’s Headhunter vinyl album (Whack This Guy). Somewhere on YouTube there is also a hidden gem in the form of a cover version of Hurt which they released to support the losses during the Belgian terrorist attacks in March 2016.
Fast forward today, Doganov has a great ear for riffs, the synth melodies are excellent, the dance-orientated pace of the songs gives them a little more range in appeal, and the vocals are massive and performed with passion throughout.
Their new single ‘Twincest’ released in January 2018 sounds exciting, punchy, tight and still with a certain catchy melody behind it. The accompanying video clip features a man in his underwear driving around in an old car, with a twist. See for yourself on the known social channels.
Doganov releases a brand new EP, with some surprises added on top of it, on 28 April 2018. Check it out!!!
