The story of a resurrection. Or maybe we've been here all along.
Consisent with the past but pushing forever forward into the uncharted, we are proud to have created 10 new songs with the aid of Mr Tim Green at Louder Studios. A purist analog approach from cradle to grave, more spontaneous than planned, gives this set of songs a very unique character and feel and seems to have done well to capture the sounds that are currently bounding around in our collective heads. Sounds almost as good as we've imagined it. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Tim Green.
In terms of description, we have learned to relish in the fact that Porch is difficult to characterize and define in a musical world that is ever trying harder to do so. As has always been consistent for us, we prefer to reference others descriptions of the music we create rather than concoct our own :
"Phew! we will not wait 17 years for them to release a new album, it would have been a pity also to wait that long. This new album is beautiful, taking, fairly long 10 pieces, 10 pieces made pretense with these false always walks that only the trio secret, these moments of calm before the storm or "Tourettes Class" and hopping noisy. Let yourself be tamed by this album poison hoping them all the success they deserve. Magnificent! highly recommended!" - Radio Kultura Noise-r-us (France) reviewing Walking Boss (Oct 2013)
"This haunting urban blues and soul through me and I recommend prolonged listening to dissonant nightmare." I will not contradict him, nay.” — Publié par radiokultura Noise R'us à l'adresse, Radio Kultura Noise-r-us (France) reviewing Givin Up (May 2011)
"If it is particularly difficult to characterize and define this music, something very simple binding on you: it is simply fantastic. The rhythm section proves hard, supporting each rhythm with conviction and simplicity, but it is in the mid-tempo that is most remarkable. The seven titles are also on the alert, often in direct confrontation in that area and mid-water, Porch excels. The song of Todd Huth, perched high enough, also gives a special tone to a record that isn't already short of specifics. So go listen to these songs later, it's an order and when this record will come in the flesh, bursting it.” — SKX, Perte et
"It sounds like an album that says “fuck Mammoth, we’re doing this on our own” and really that IS what they did…just years later. You can tell there are no real restraints to what they want to do on Givin’ Up. It’s a straight up snapshot of the musical climate during the time of which they were making their first run. Think Jesus Lizard, Tar, Crain, and etc.. It’s good to hear these guys pick it up and not miss a beat really". — Jonathan, Built On A Weak Spot reviewing Givin Up (May 2011)
Having been at it for over 25 years, we have our share of indie cred. Guitarist/vocalist Todd Huth was part of the original Primus along with follow on projects Sausage and Les Claypool's Fearless Frog Brigade. Bassist Christopher Frey came from Today Is The Day and original drummer David Ayer beat it for Samiam before being replaced by Michael Jacobs in 1998. Michael now also plays with San Francisco's Brookhaven.
Our background led us to some local press early on and a deal with Jello Biafra's label Alternative
Tentacles Records. With a self-titled EP in 1993, Mammoth Records came through and put out their full-length the following year,
appropriately titled "Porch". Years past and Porch continued on for many years with only Todd and Michael after Chris moved to Nashville. The initial reunion with Chris in 2011 forged Givin Up, a seven song collection recorded at Justin Millar's Ausgang Audio (Petaluma, Ca.) with the band & Mr. Eli Crews at New, Improved Recording (Oakland, Ca.) at the controls and released in May 2011.
Since then, local shows, writing and logistics have been the focus, figuring out how to make our distributed effort work with Chris still in Nashville and Todd and Michael in the Bay Area. We seem to have done ok, as we feel "Walking Boss' attests to.
Looking forward to what the future may bring ...
» Sects Tape  (CANCELLED)   (Dead Garage / Punk Garage)

After El Gouro's first trip to the other life, the new perception and powers he came back with made him realize this world was in need of his infinite mind potential. He decided to hire the most loyal and devoted apostles and start a band whose sole purpose was to teach the world about the joys of El Gouro's knowledge. They were four : the thin, the tall, the fat and the hairless. Bound forever in the most sacred rituals of all which many have heard of but few have seen. With already a number of performances in the heart of the old continent, the sect's influence grows bigger everyday in the hearts of it's followers. Maybe you will witness it someday? In this life….or the other
